B I O

My practice revolves around flowers and botanical material and interest in the material culture surrounding them. I observe how the tension of working with a deteriorating material is resolved and explore how creating work which is transitory invites the viewer into a collaboration which frequently doesn’t endure.
I have an interdisciplinary background and hold a BA Irish Studies (TCD, 2017) and an MA in Art & Research Collaboration ARC (IADT, 2020).  In September 2021  I will begin research into the cultural history of botanical illustration from the 18th to 20th century in Ireland.
I am interested in how the use of botanical material functions, in the conventional sense as a form of artistic/scientific documentation of species through the study of botany and horticulture as well as in the decorative sense where botanical forms pass into use in architecture and craftsmanship and even in literature and fashion.
My current research interests seek to bring together my academic and practical backgrounds.
I am also a florist and flower grower with a garden and greenhouse in The Curragh, Co Kildare.  I sell locally grown flowers from March to October in my local Neighbourfood in Kildare and take commissions for weddings or gift bouquets or any botanical adventure you can dream of.
